CANADA TRIP (2007 Summer)

JF: This is the first time we traveled outside of the country together. We drove all the way back to Chicago from here (2hrs) to catch the flight in the morning and almost missed it... It was a wonderful experience for both of us because I got a chance to show RD how the cuisine from the other part of the world (HK) is like.

RD: Glad we had the chance to go too! So when we made it to Canada, we spent most of our time along HIGHWAY 7 in Markham, Ontario. This is where the bulk of the HK food can be found.

Fresh wintermelon cake
~ $1.5 CAD
RD: One of the first things we tried was the wintermelon at a small mall. It's veryyy good compared to chicago's. It was warm, crispy outside, soft sweet gooey inside, and very fresh. This was a surprise...

Grass Jelly with assorted fresh fruits
~ $5 CAD

JF: The food and malls in Toronto...reminded me of how it was like living in HK: food was cheap and really delicious. The dessert...awww....

RD: Desserts have tons of fruit : D

Tofu pudding with dried shredded pork
and Chinese pickles
~ $3 CAD
JF: When I saw this on the menu I was like...what the heck is this...? I had never seen that in HK (perhaps I didn't eat around that much)...The tofu pudding was not sweetened, and the stuff on top was kinda salty. Nevertheless this combination gave a very distinct flavor. Good trial.

RD: Yeah, good random pick. I didn't have any expectations, so I was happy : D

Fish balls and Suimai ~ $3 CAD
RD: This was from a food court at the same mall that had the wintermelon (it's full of good food here). It's a good pick for a quick tasty snack, and it's cheap.

JF: Heaven. Finally, the suimais were made from fish not pork. Their size was 1.5 times that of HK's suimais.
The fishball was okay.

Wish to show more pictures but they were somehow lost. : (
Next time we will visit the real HK! (hopefully)

Our first blog

Have been thinking about making a food blog to remember what kinds of food we have been eating. We do not cook well, or perhaps we don't have time to spare on cooking good food. All we make at our apartment are always omelet, tofu, chicken, bok choy, and frozen veggies. Here we go!
